MYRTLE BEACH – The South Carolina Undercover Mobile Police Unit (SCUM-PU) held a press conference early today to announce operation “Limp-Wrist Shot” on the heels of a related story out of New Jersey. Alluding to the ongoing investigation of gambling and gaming involving a former professional hockey player, Detective Steve Burnout announced that rumours pertaining to an illegal gambling ring in the Kanata Ontario-based K.O.H.A. were indeed the focus of a 6 month investigation head by Burnout and other senior members of SCUM-PU out of their Myrtle Beach office.

In a prepared statement, a spokesman for this special investigative unit of the South Carolina police department indicated that several members of the league, including one ex-captain had been named in the investigation. It is believed that the investigation could reach as high as the commissioner’s office itself. Detective Burnout went on to indicate that the investigation will continue, and that they, like their New Jersey counterparts, felt that circumstances beyond their control forced them to go public with their efforts at this time.

When asked if any other players may be involved, the detective refused to name names. Insiders suggested that all information points to the one ex-captain as being at the centre of the gambling ring. The detectives went on to add that it is no small coincidence that the individual in question plays on the same team as noted under-world king-pin, “Razor Ray Jodini”. Sources close to the K.O.H.A. confirmed that the only ex-captain playing along-side Jodini would be league-goon Bennie "The Bat" Raskoni, but that there was no confirmation Raskoni was involved.

It is no secret in most legal circles that SCUM-PU has been working for years to indict Jodini on racketeering charges stemming from his infamous gambling enterprise. Unnamed sources close to the investigation suggested on condition of anonymity, that detectives have been after Jodini for years due to an annual golf trip that nets the mob-boss untold millions in wagers. This golf tournament is said to take place on their door step in Myrtle Beach. This long-standing embarrassment to the SCUM-PU is believed to be behind the entire investigation that lead investigators back the K.O.H.A. in the past several months.

Meanwhile, back at the Kanata headquarters of the K.O.H.A. commissioner Wayne "Bossman" Godizza raised eye-brows when questioned about the impending indictment, by replying with his ever curt, “No Comment”. Those close to the case wondered out loud whether or not the criminal enterprise may indeed involve Treasurer Big Paul "Pauli" Armstrong. Again Godizza snapped back that on advice from K.O.H.A. legal counsel, Greg Simminovitz, he would not be willing to pass on any comments regarding the investigation. He did however deliver a prepared statement from the lobby of the posh headquarters.

In the statement Godizza indicated that “The Kanata Old Timers Hockey Association in no way shape or form condones any form of wager on the results or outcomes of its games and will not tolerate any such activities at any time now or in the future, unless of course, any such wagering involved alcoholic beverages in the back lot or could be initiated in such a way as to benefit the league”.

The investigation continues.
